Aruna Send New Version and Public Beta Now Live

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

We have been working hard on getting a new release and new features ready for you. There have been many requested features and we always try hard to make them all happen. So if your feature is not included, we may be considering it in the near future.

On to the announcement, today we are promoting the new version of Aruna Send to public beta and anyone is free to try it out… for free of course.

Here are the new features:

Free File Storage – My Files Tab
Yes, free storage that doesn’t expire (as long as you continue to use the service, you must log in every six months to keep your account active). Upload and store your files and and organize them within folders.

Sent Files History
Now you can see the history of the files you have sent to people through Aruna Send. Easily re-send files that were sent before (assuming they are within their expiry)

Extended Aruna Send file expiry
Logged in users sent files now have a 14 day expiry period (instead of 7 days for the free version). In addition there is a new “Copy to Storage” feature where you can copy any of your sent files over to your file storage area. This means you can keep those files and re-send them as many times as you wish.

Increased Aruna Send File sizes – Now send files up to 150 MB

Sharing
You can also easily share files that are in your online storage with the provided links to easily post on the web, forums etc.

Open ID
To use the new features of Aruna Send you must have an Open ID. Open ID will let you log into many websites with one ID.

More robust back end and storage infrastructure – We will write more about this later

So without further ado, here is the link to try out the new Aruna Send Beta with FREE file storage.

Aruna Labs Releases Two Zimlets for Zimbra Collaboration Suite

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

On the back of our release of the Aruna Send Widget for Yahoo Widgets, we are glad today to spread our wings a little further. In order to enable our other services to be more closely integrated with Aruna email, we have developed two plug-ins (Zimlets) that will allow customers to use the following services directly from Aruna email in their browser.

1. Aruna Send Zimlet – Will allow users to send large files directly from their webmail in their browser. It is free, there is no sign up and it will allow you to send up to 100MB files.

About Aruna Send Zimlet

2. Aruna URL Zimlet – You can convert long and unwieldy web links (URLs) into short easy URLs from the Zimlet or directly inside of emails by right clicking on any link.

Aruna URL Zimlet

We are also releasing the Zimlets to the community of 6 million other Zimbra users. The services that the Zimlets offer will be free and there will be no charge for the Zimlets themselves. Zimbra uses must contact their Zimbra email server administrator and ask them to install the Zimlets.

We are currently getting the project page and documentation ready. In the meantime, both Aruna Send and Aruna URL Zimlets are available for download immediately below.

We have also set up a forum where the community can make suggestions, report bugs and discuss the Zimlets. We will post the address to that very soon as well.

Note: Both Zimlets are still considered beta software. We have tested them, they are working and we have not found any major bugs on our ZCS environments. You should also test them in your configuration before deciding whether to enable them in your live production environment.

Aruna Send Widget – Send large files free from Mac OS X and Windows widgets

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

In our mission to make applications that are easy and convenient to use, it was only a matter of time before we start to offer other methods to access Aruna Send (other than the web). Today is the first public beta release of the Aruna Send Yahoo! Widget. If you don’t know about Widgets yet, they are handy mini applications that can easily be accessed at any time on your desktop. There is a good article that gives an overview of the major widget platforms available today.

For the first Aruna Send widget, we have chosen the Yahoo! widget platform. They have over 4000 widgets available now and all of them work cross platform on both Mac OS X and Windows. That was a major plus for us in the decision on where to develop first.

The aim of the widget is to make it as easy as possible for you to send files. For those who already are running widgets, just download the Aruna Send Widget and you can upload files and send them to whoever you wish. Your recipient will have 7 days to collect the file (this 7 day period may go up or down after the beta period). The widget itself does not expire but we will have future versions and updates that you will want to watch for periodically. No sign up or account is necessary to use the service.

For those who don’t have Yahoo! Widgets installed, it is easy.

1. Go over to http://widgets.yahoo.com and click on the Install button. The widget application will be installed.
2. Then download the Aruna Send widget. Just double click on the file ArunaSend.widget and it will be installed and you are ready to go.

The process is the same on both Mac and PC.

We will be putting the widget up on a Aruna Widgets project page soon. In the meantime, Aruna Send Widget is available immediately below. By downloading it you will be able to see what your recipient will see when they collect the files that you send them.

ArunaLabs launches Aruna URL – Make long web links small. For free.

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Have you ever tried to paste a long URL (web link) in your email and have it not work because it was on two lines? Or tried to SMS, MMS or Twitter a link that is too long? We have and it is downright annoying. We hated it so much that we created a solution that is suitable for business, one that is stable and going to stick around.

The new service is available as of today, it is called Aruna URL. It is very simple, you put any URL / link into the box, click go and it returns a small URL that you can give out, email to co-workers, staff, put on website or what ever you wish. When the other person clicks on the link they will be directed to the original link that you entered originally.

The web site is available immediately at http://arunaurl.com

We are also working on several widgets, gadgets, an API for developers, html snippets and other handy ways to use Aruna URL. We will update very soon on some of these as they go live.

In the meantime, enjoy Aruna URL. It is totally FREE!

Aruna Send is promoted to public beta – Send your large files for FREE!

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Today Aruna Labs announces the public beta of it’s next product, Aruna Send. Aruna Send was born from our own need to send large files to customers, disparate project teams, vendors, consultants and others not in our office. We were tired of clunky FTP and other solutions, so we built our own! We have plans and projects in the works to build out the Aruna Send product and offer it to the business world.

The public beta will allow you to try out the service and send files under 100MB for FREE. Yes free. Free as in speech. The files you send will be available for collection on the servers for 7 days. While in public beta mode, we will delete all files after they are 7 days old (from the time of sending).

Send your files Fast! We have not throttled back or limited the bandwidth at all as we want to test out the speed from all corners of the globe.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve the service please send them by email to sendsuggestions@arunalabs.com. We appreciate your feedback and we will do our best to use them to improve Aruna Send.

Our development team at VisionTEN has done a great job so far and we are working with them to develop the enterprise and integration features that businesses will find invaluable. More news on the future features will be announced here in the near future.
